Who Am I and What do I do ?

About me.

Poulton Family 2019-10.jpeg

My name is Michele Poulton, I believe in living life, not just managing or surviving through it.

I would say that despite seeming confident and successful on the outside, many of the pieces in my tool kit of emotional awareness, were missing.   I spent years in my 20’s trying to build my self esteem and understand who I really was; battling with what other people saw in me , compared to how I felt inside. I had little understanding of how to relate in a healthy way with others, and bounced from co-dependent to highly independent, so much so that when I found myself in an abusive relationship I didn’t even recognise what was happening until a friend told me !!

I thought my reactions to people and events in my life were totally logical and rational, and I certainly didn’t question why I thought in a certain way, nor believed this could be changed.

We have all experienced trauma in many differences guises; disappointments, loss, harsh words, criticism, judgement, being bullied, manipulated, controlled by others, being ignored or neglected …. the list of the many events in life that scar us and shape us into who we are now, is endless and totally individual.

I now understand that our brain seeks to protect us, and so creates panic or anxiety around situations it associates to past events in our lives. That’s why we never question this - it is hardwired in. Learning that we can in fact change the way we see and interpret things, has been life changing for me.

I am a single parent to 3 amazing young adults. I am also a Foster carer for Surrey County Council. I have been through childhood with an alcoholic parent, divorce, loss under terrible circumstances and an abusive relationship, as well as the usual daily struggles life throws at us. I am a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) and an empath, this means I am intuitive, highly observant and perceptive, but also means I am more affected by emotional stimuli and very sensitive to conflict, and violence. (About 15-20% of people are HSPs, perhaps you are one too?).

I believe relationships are the key to life. and that our feelings are the key to our relationships. The most important relationship is the one you have with yourself, this impacts all the others. For years I struggled to be authentic, constantly at odds with what society seemed to demand of me. Learning acceptance, and healing past trauma has allowed me find peace with myself and feel inner calm. I love helping others achieve the same. I would love to help you transform your life from the inside out.

I offer therapeutic coaching to help you through relationships with others and yourself. I have also trained in Holistic Healing and Counselling and can offer several different techniques to complement our work if you think it is appropriate. I promise you a safe place, where your story is valued and accepted.

I am a qualified Anusara yoga teacher; yoga is proven to be so beneficial to mental wellbeing, for calming mind and body, as well as physically strengthening. Yoga has been transformational for me, I have really benefitted from the flexibility and strength it gives me , but the power of yoga lies in the 2000 year wisdom and philosophy, which celebrates diversity, teaches connection, and approaches life from the heart .

I love to work with teenagers, and of course anyone aged over 18 !
